Andrea Lam.
Sunday, June 28th, 2.30pm.
Star of the ABC’s The Piano and winner of the 2025 ARIA Award for Best Classical Album, pianist Andrea Lam interpretative depth and virtuosic prowess is unleashed in this diverse program spanning over two centuries.
To play the music of Schubert is to lay bare one’s soul. Rarely does a composer express such duality, creating music of sublime exultation and haunting desolation. Schubert’s A Major Piano Sonata sits at the heart of this program and is a formidable example of this duality. Imbued with intense lyricism, harmonic sophistication and thematic inventiveness, the sonata is beloved for its achingly beautiful second movement and bucolic outer movements.
The Schubert is paired with works by siblings and spouses of the Classical-Romantic era, Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn, and Clara and Robert Schumann. Two dazzling Spanish works, an Aria from J.S.Bach’s Goldberg Variations and 'Bachram', a work written specifically for Andrea by Australian composer, Melody Eötvös completes the program.
